The THEATRE OF IONIUM presents in RADAR theatre the work of Constantine Theotoki "Love Illegal" adapted and directed by Peter Avgerinou on limited number of performances. The play is presented as a monologue with the Dora Papanikolaou in the role of Diamantha to narrate and keep the axis of the project. The performance with a successful route in the Ionian Islands, was loved by the audience and praised by the critics, knowing great artistic success.
Two words about the project:
A middle-aged small farmer, Stathis, from a village in Corfu, decides to to marry his son to the prettiest girl in the village, Chrissavgi. Ο this marriage will be the occasion for a series of untold passions to erupt. Η Stathis' fierce desire for Chrissavgi and his wife's reaction Diamond, who has understood the "illicit desires" of her husband, will trigger developments. The illicit relationship between bride and father-in-law Diamanto will try to keep it hidden because it threatens to tear down not only the two families but also the moral principles of the closed
The director of the show Petros Avgerinos says about it... "Love is Illegal" (1905) by Konstantinos Theotokis (1872-1923), one of the the most prominent representatives of the so-called "Ionian School", with theme taken from the harsh living conditions of a decentralized and stagnant society and with heroes who move marked by the two-way pressure of the and the environment, is a landmark work for the literature of the place. while at the same time enriching in a pioneering way for its time the a shift towards the psychological study of locality. Our performance focuses in a contemporary and pertinent way on the atmosphere of the time and the depth of Theotokis' heroes, while highlighting the tragic nature of situations and persons.
It would be hard to argue that this performance constitutes a a typical theatrical monologue in the strict sense of the term. We were expanding as much as possible the boundaries, mixing the rich narrative elements with the pure theatrical action, representing in relief the action of the heroes on stage highlighting the aspirations and the consequences of their actions, in a way that which I wouldn't hesitate to say is a performance of totalitarian theatre. It is, after all, a work that even nowadays vibrates and fascinates.
They wrote about the show:
"The short story by Dinos Theotokis "Illegal Love" could not be a better metaphor in the theatre and more accurate for the spirit of Theotokos interpretation, from those of Dora Papanikolaou (acting) and Petros Avgerinou (director)... Dora Papanikolaou is a tragedian. Dora did not just perform a theatrical role, Dora acted (with
ecclesiastical meaning of the term)... Congratulations to all the the cast and crew of the show."

"... The play ("Love Unlawful" by Kon-tanos Theotokis), as dramatized by the Ionian Theatre is breathtaking. Excellent performance, with simple means and descriptive scenery, absolutely believable costumes, traditional folk music and "voices" off stage that accentuate the psychodrama of the struggling narrative... Huge success, award-winning performance.
Dora Papanikolaou is a singer. As if she came out of the ancient Greek drama and escaped into our miserable everyday life. It's so dry, so arid, so unspiritual are our times, that performances and feats like this one have made me bring tears to the eyes... So special is this performance, so spectacular, with a female actress - machine that fills the entire stage with her volume, the variations and timbres of her rich voice... Impeccable kinesthetics, unadorned, simple, popular. Her clothes as if they were sewn on her in another age and carries them with the patina of time deep engraved on them and on her soul... Great job. Don't miss it!..."
