A few words about Social Waste:

Social Waste was created in '99 in Heraklion, Crete.17 year old students caught the attention of Active Member and collaborated within their production team. They appeared in many music scenes until 2006 when they decided to take a break.In 2013 they appear again with the addition of 2 new members, Christos & Giorgis Nika (Antipina).

Today, they continue to do what they learned as children, trying to take it "a little further" from where they received it, before passing it on to the next generation.

Their innovation is that they introduced traditional instruments of the wider Mediterranean culture without reproducing "museum" traditional patterns, with their own melodies & rhythms, combining them with the socio-political lyrics & the dynamism of hip-hop. Rhymes-knife, dynamic stage presence, under the sounds of lute, bagpipes, ancient lyre & other Mediterranean instruments. Their lyrics are full of references to poets & writers of the world, as well as to the socio-political situation in Greece, the Mediterranean and the whole world. They have performed in many music scenes/festivals & self-organized venues all over Greece and abroad. They have a strong activist activity & often give speeches in self-organized spaces and universities about the socio-political dimension of hip hop.
