Synopsis:
As Islamic ethics groups carry out arbitrary raids in Tehran and fundamentalists take over universities, Azar Nafisi, a teacher passionate about literature, secretly gathers six of her most dedicated students to read banned Western classics. Unused to expressing her opinion, they soon take off their veils and her stories become intertwined with the novels they read: her heroines of Nabokov, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Henry James or Jane Austen, the women in Nafisi's living room dare to dream, hope and love, and we watch the complexities of the lives of individuals facing political, moral and personal siege. Reading Lolita in Tehran is a remarkable and moving exploration of women's fierce resistance in revolutionary Iran.
