The Corfu International Festival in cooperation with the Black Sheep theatre group presents the performance When the whales whistle from Sunday 19 November at 20:00 at Studio of the Municipal Theatre of Corfu.

Once upon a time, somewhere not near, but not far, in a totally authoritarian regime, not quite the same as the one we live in but not quite different, six women escape on a makeshift raft.

And where "the city is not visible", where they think they have escaped, their will will be tested by facing their worst enemy... Nature itself.

This is a contemporary work, presented for the first time. Written in a dystopian setting, where the boundaries between comedy and tragedy are thin. The story unfolds through the friendship of six women. With funny conversations and inner quests. Inspired by "Icetides" of Aeschylus which raises timeless questions such as:

What is the value of human life without freedom?
How many sacrifices is the human being willing to make in order to live without a bridle?
What are the limits of human endurance in the face of the elements?
Where does humanity begin and end when our very lives are at stake?

Hope is the most powerful concept in the history of humanity. Its existence can change the trajectory of the earth and its absence can lead to the abyss. The heroines in our play "hope" and we are with them from the beginning to the end of the perilous journey they have dared to take.
