A monologue with \"many\" faces. A poetic and human performance that reveals the darkness of Penelope Delta's daughter, woman, artist, wife, mother and lover - with details that we may not have known until now and truths that have been forgotten over the years.<\/p>\n
\"The Portrait\" was written on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of the author, who left her imprint both in her art and in life, going against the conservatism of her time and the trivialities of her time.<\/p>\n
A few words about the project<\/strong> She \"talks\" with her \"invisible\" co-stars, the people who marked her life, her parents, Stefanos Delta and Ion Dragoumis. For once, she confesses what she never dared to say, blames everyone, herself and ultimately life itself.<\/p>\n Director's note<\/strong> As we are talking about a woman who lived between 1874 and 1941, I wanted to focus on her soul and her inner world rather than on her work or her environment, without of course excluding them from our performance, since they were part of her. But I wanted, for the first time, for this woman to speak simply and openly about the many repressed emotions she carried all her life. To remember her not only as Penelope Delta the writer, but also as a woman with a lot of passion and a lot of passions. I think we often forget, when we refer to such personalities, that they too were just people. \nPenelope Delta on stage goes from her childhood, to adolescence with its first tremors, to adulthood, marriage, meeting her secret lover, Ion Dragoumis, and finally to death.<\/p>\n

\nMy main goal and anxiety was how to marry the classical with the contemporary, without losing the identity of the work and its atmosphere. I think the only way to achieve this is by taking the path of simplicity, both acting and scenic.<\/p>\n

\nHe has been working as an actor for 35 years, and has written about 20 books and plays. In recent years she has been producing her own plays that she says she \"needs to express to the world.\" Penelope Delta is a personality that has engaged her before, as she has written another play about her relationship with Ion Dragoumis, \"The Last Encounter\", which was much loved by the people and the performances were a great success in Athens and Thessaloniki for two years (2016- 17). This was followed by a monologue, for Marika Kotopouli, entitled \"To Agrimi\", which also travelled all over Greece. Now, 150 years after her birth, she returns to her first heroine, Penelope Delta, with the play \"The Portrait\", speaking now more fully about her life, her relationship with her mother - Penelope's \"thorn\" - but also her relationship with her children, her husband, and her eternal love, Ion Dragoumi.<\/p>\n
