The emblematic work of Modern Greek Literature continues its performances, with the great interpretation of Fotis Makris.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"The Box\"<\/strong>, is the only novel by Mars Alexandrou<\/strong> and has been described as one of the most important texts of Modern Greek literature. At the end of the Greek civil war, a group of guerrillas undertakes, after an order from the General Headquarters, to transport, passing through enemy territory, a box of unknown contents, addressed to the command
\nof a rebel-held city. During the mission, the group begins to lose members gradually until only one rebel is saved, who finally manages to deliver the crate. When it reaches its destination, however, it is found to be empty and the rebel is imprisoned by his other comrades as a saboteur.<\/p>\n

In an overwhelming attempt to prove his innocence, he begins to write reports to the investigator, in which he does not hesitate to explain and interpret the meaning of their paradoxical mission.
\nThese reports, constitute the novel of Alexander.
\nThe author of the reports knows nothing about the identity of the investigator or his captors, nor whether the investigator reads what he writes. The novel has been interpreted both as an allegory about the civil war and as a denunciation of all kinds of powers and priesthoods, but also as a commentary on Western civilization.<\/p>\n

A few words about the author<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u039f Mars Alexandrou<\/strong> (pseudonym of Aristotle Vassiliadis) was born in Petrograd, Russia, in 1922 to a Greek father and a Russian mother. A few years after his birth (1928), the family moved to Thessaloniki, Greece.
\nand then to Athena. He started translating and writing at a young age. His political adventures (he was exiled to El Daba in Libya, Moudros in Lemnos, Makronissos and imprisoned for his left-wing political views), accompanied by corresponding ideological ones, as he disagreed with his comrades, did not dampen his translation output, nor his poetic creativity. From 1967 he lived in self-exile, together with his wife, Katie Drossou, in Paris, where he finished writing the novel \"The Box\". He died in Paris in 1978.
\nHis poetic works are: Still this Spring (1946), Barren Line (1952), Euthytis Street (1959), Poems (1941-1971) (1972). He has also been involved in translation from English, Russian, French, Italian and German. His only novel, The Box, was translated into French and English and was the subject of many university papers.<\/p>\n
