The\u00a0THEATRE OF IONIUM<\/strong>\u00a0presents in\u00a0RADAR theatre<\/strong>\u00a0the work of\u00a0Constantine\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>Theotoki \"Love Illegal\"<\/strong>\u00a0adapted and directed by\u00a0Peter Avgerinou<\/strong>\u00a0on<\/span>\u00a0 limited number of performances. The play is presented as a monologue with the\u00a0<\/span>Dora Papanikolaou<\/strong>\u00a0in the role of Diamantha to narrate and keep the\u00a0<\/span>axis of the project. The performance with a successful route in the Ionian Islands,<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0was loved by the audience and praised by the critics, knowing great\u00a0<\/span>artistic success.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Two words about the project:<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/strong>A middle-aged small farmer, Stathis, from a village in Corfu, decides to\u00a0<\/span>to marry his son to the prettiest girl in the village, Chrissavgi. \u039f<\/span>\u00a0this marriage will be the occasion for a series of untold passions to erupt. \u0397\u00a0<\/span>Stathis' fierce desire for Chrissavgi and his wife's reaction\u00a0<\/span>Diamond, who has understood the \"illicit desires\" of her husband, will<\/span>\u00a0 trigger developments. The illicit relationship between bride and father-in-law\u00a0<\/span>Diamanto will try to keep it hidden because it threatens to tear down<\/span>\u00a0not only the two families but also the moral principles of the closed<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The director of the show Petros Avgerinos says about it<\/span>... \"Love is Illegal\" (1905) by Konstantinos Theotokis (1872-1923), one of the<\/span>\u00a0the most prominent representatives of the so-called \"Ionian School\", with\u00a0<\/span>theme taken from the harsh living conditions of a decentralized and stagnant<\/span>\u00a0society and with heroes who move marked by the two-way pressure of the\u00a0<\/span>and the environment, is a landmark work for the literature of the place.\u00a0<\/span>while at the same time enriching in a pioneering way for its time the<\/span>\u00a0a shift towards the psychological study of locality. Our performance\u00a0<\/span>focuses in a contemporary and pertinent way on the atmosphere of the time and<\/span>\u00a0the depth of Theotokis' heroes, while highlighting the tragic nature of\u00a0<\/span>situations and persons.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

It would be hard to argue that this performance constitutes a\u00a0<\/span>a typical theatrical monologue in the strict sense of the term. We were expanding as much as possible\u00a0<\/span>the boundaries, mixing the rich narrative elements with the pure\u00a0<\/span>theatrical action, representing in relief the action of the heroes on stage\u00a0<\/span>highlighting the aspirations and the consequences of their actions, in a way that\u00a0<\/span>which I wouldn't hesitate to say is a performance of totalitarian theatre.\u00a0<\/span>It is, after all, a work that even nowadays vibrates and fascinates.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
