"Viva George!"

George Katsaros and the Old Philharmonic: Old Fortress, 16 September 2023

A long overdue honor is being paid by the Old Philharmonic on September 16, 2023. More specifically, Greece's oldest music-educational institution honors one of its old musicians, who for decades has deservedly emerged as an iconic composer, saxophonist and conductor. This is the case of the universally beloved George Katsaros, a former student of the Philharmonic Society of Corfu, who during the difficult post-war period, starting from the woodwind and string instrument classes of the institution and further expanding his knowledge at the Hellenic Conservatory of Athens, achieved international fame as a creator of popular, music-theatre, radio and film music, as well as a musical performer. He has collaborated with giants of lyric writing and acting, and his unique sounds have graced songs, revues, film and theatre productions, as well as music festivals. At the same time, he was at the head of key musical institutions such as the Panhellenic Music Association or the musical ensembles of the Municipality of Athens. However, he never forgot his homeland, which he has always supported and promoted at every opportunity.

The above are only indicative reasons, which led to the long overdue honorary concert for the outstanding Corfu composer and student of the Old Philharmonic, which will take place at the Old Fortress on 16 September 2023. It will present exclusively works by George Katsaros and is characterized by a great musical, and in itself purely Corfiot, mobilization. Specifically, the bandina of the Old Philharmonic and the Corfiot "Great Lady of Greek song" Clio Nemardou will take part, under the direction of the conductor Spyros Prosoparis, along with Agathi Koskina, Christina Rallis and Pantelis Kontos in singing. Also participating are the choirs of the Corfu Men's Choir, the Municipal Choir of Corfu "Demodokos", the Choir of Anemomylos "Thomas Flanginis", as well as the children's choirs of Acharavi, Afra and "The Smiles of Mon Repos". Also participating is the Mandolinata of the Corfu Music School, as well as Yannis Kourkoulos (piano) and Nikos Anthis (narration).
