
"Love Unlawful": a captivating theatrical experience in Corfu

After the sold out performances at the Alpha Theatre in Athens, the Ionian Theatre presented in Corfu the excellent production "Love Illegonimos" by Konstantinos Theotokis. Directed by Petros Avgerinos and performed by the unique Dora Papanikolaou in the role of Diamantos, the performance enchanted the audience of Polytechnos from 31 October to 4 November 2024. The play highlights the harsh reality of traditional society and the intensity of unrequited passion. Stathis Therianos, a wealthy middle-aged landowner from Dafnila, Corfu, is planning the marriage of his son to the beautiful Chrysavgi. However, he develops a passion for his bride, setting off a sequence of tragic events. His wife, Diamanto, struggles to keep the truth hidden, trying to prevent the destruction of their families as tensions escalate.
The performance successfully conveyed the dark atmosphere and the internal conflict of the characters, impressing the audience. The traditional sets and the folk music contributed to the creation of an atmosphere full of tension and emotional charge. Those who attended had the opportunity to enjoy an excellent directorial approach and admire the captivating performance of Dora Papanikolaou, who delivered her role with amazing power and authenticity.
